How can I arrange a visit to the School?
The Claremont Community School of Music office is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

May I meet with a faculty member while I'm visiting CCSM?
Appointments with faculty members need to be arranged in advance.  Watch our special events page for more information.

Are there any audition requirements for instrument/voice?
If you are not currently a student at CCSM, an audition will be required for orchestra or ensemble groups.  Auditions are not normally required for private lesson instruction.  The office will notify you if an audition is required.

When is the deadline for submitting my application?
Applications are accepted at any time for private lessons.  Group class applications must be submitted prior to the class start date.

When are application materials available? May I use last year's forms?
You must use current forms; application materials are available online or at CCSM’s office.

What is the cost of lessons?
Private lesson cost varies based on the length of lesson and the payment plan chosen.  Our Summer term offers lessons on a “per lesson” cost, currently $27.00 for 30 minutes, $39.00 for 45 minutes, and $51.00 for one hour.   Click here to view our 2008 - 2009 Catalog.

During the school year (September through May), students sign up for a 34-week term.  This guarantees their spot on the instructors' regular schedule.

For example:  The tuition for a 30 minute lesson each week (34-week term), on the monthly billing plan is $103 per month.   The total cost of lessons ($927) has been divided equally over the 9-month term, regardless of number of lessons per month.

When will I know who my instructor is?
Applicants are notified of instructor assignments as soon as their lesson time is verified with the instructor.  Applicants who have a strong desire to study with a particular  instructor are encouraged to include that information on the application.

Does the Claremont Community School of Music offer financial aid?  If so, how much?
Yes, the Claremont Community School of Music does offer financial aid.  Individual amounts vary and may come in the form of merit scholarships or CCSM need-based grants. For more information, visit the Financial Aid section of this site.

How is the CCSM school year divided?
The Claremont Community School of Music academic year is divided into two semesters. The Fall term runs from the second week of September until the end of May (34 weeks). The Summer term begins the first week of June and runs through the end of August.

Does the school provide or sell instruments?
No, the Claremont Community School of Music does not provide or maintain instruments for students’ use.   We can refer students to sources for instruments.

Are there opportunities for students to perform?
Recitals and concerts are held regularly throughout the year in our recital hall and at other local venues.

If I miss a lesson, is a make-up lesson offered?
CCSM must still pay the instructor if you do not attend your lesson, therefore no make-up lessons are offered.  If the teacher misses a planned lesson, a make-up lesson will be scheduled.

May I reschedule a lesson?
Rescheduling is at the discretion of the instructor.  No make-up lessons are required to be scheduled.

When is my payment due?
The registration fee and first tuition payment are due at registration. Subsequent tuition payments will be billed by CCSM. All bills are due on the 1st of each month, payments are considered late if not received by the 15th of the month. A late fee of $25 is automatically applied to accounts with past due balances. A $25 service charge will be applied for checks returned by the bank for any reason.
